MrBeast Burger Closes Down in the Hudson Valley

Last year, YouTube star Jimmy Donaldson — better known as Mr. Beast — did a pop-up launch for his new burger restaurant, causing mass hysteria in Dutchess County and across the country. Since then, he's opened over 300 locations using "ghost kitchens," where existing restaurants provide the menu items for delivery to customers. The know-how comes from Virtual Dining Concepts, a company that partners with celebrity brands and leverages their audiences to build profitable virtual brands that operate out of underused kitchens.

Hudson Valley fans have been able to order mrbeast burger through the ghost kitchen's app from two local locations, based at Joe's Dairy Bar in Poughkeepsie and Spins Bowl on Old Rt. 5 in Carmel. But the service was short-lived. A few hours after launching in our area, the small kitchen was overwhelmed with orders and had to close down for the day. Joe's had to turn away hundreds of people and was left with an enormous backlog of food, which they were not prepared for.

A commenter on the Twitter thread asked Jimmy what was going on and he responded that Feastables were his major passion project now and he would focus more on those than Beast Burger. He didn't say that Beast Burger was closing down, but did seem to indicate that it would be a smaller effort for him going forward.

Brandeis students who hoped to take advantage of the option are probably relieved. We had a chance to try the mrbeast burger for ourselves here on campus and found it was decent, but nothing spectacular. The burger itself was tasty, but the toppings are limited and it can only be ordered through the BiteU app and paid for with a credit card. There's a Five Guys in Waltham, about a 15 minute walk from campus, that offers better quality and more toppings than KiwiBot could ever deliver through  mrbeast .
